Scripps

So on Sunday I went to Scripps Pier to take a specific shot I've been eyeing to do with my new gnd filters. The photo I took didn't turn out the way I thought they would and I'm not sure if that had to do with the tide level, the bad sunset, or just my horrible exposure settings I had. I was looking for an hdr type of effect but without the hdr processing. Fortunately I live very close to the beach so I can come back here whenever I like... lucky me.

On a side note... I cannot wait until daylight savings time, on March 13th, to start taking photos again after work, and not just wait until the weekend.

That hdr plan I talked about didn't work out but what I did shoot, in my opinion, did turn into some pretty nice photos. Below is one of those shots processed into a b&w to go with my "grey weekend" theme. I'll be posting more pictures from this weekend throughout the week.

Also on Saturday I fly to Hawaii for... EIGHT DAYS! I'm can't wait to overload this site with photos from this trip. A special advance thanks to my brother Josh for shipping me out his underwater p&s for some hopefully sweet snorkeling shots.

A Grey Weekend

This past weekend's weather was pretty bland here in San Diego. Between the on & off showers and high winds, I was hoping for a small break in the weather, to get some good light at sunset, but unfortunately that did not happen.
Here's a video of the wind I was dealing with while trying to take my pictures...
and here's a picture of my umbrella losing a battle to mother nature...
After braving the wind and rain, I wasn't pleased at all with how the photos were turning out. I came home and after looking through them all, I decided to just choose a handful and turn them b&w. I'm not too happy about the outcome but I guess I can't have perfect sunsets everyday.
I told myself that I will post a few photosfrom everytime I go out and I'm sticking to that, so below are a few not so glamorous photos that hopefully portray the kind of weather we had here this weekend.

La Jolla Cove

I went out today and finally tested my new filters! I noticed on my bike ride along the beach today that there were some clouds rolling in, just in time for sunset, and that's exactly what I was hoping for. I went home, grabbed my gear, and headed over to my favorite place in San Diego; La Jolla Cove. By the time the sun set the clouds were almost non-existent, but I was still pleased with the end result.
After spending a few hours with the filters, my only regret is not purchasing them FOUR YEARS AGO when I first started drooling over what these filters could do for me.
Hawaii is less than two weeks away and I'm not sure what I'm more excited about now. It was snorkeling everyday but I think using my filters as much as possible has now topped it. Oh, of course being on vacation with Laura is number one... what was I thinking...
I took so many keepers today that I had trouble deciding what pictures to post. That's why there are four photos below that basically look the same... I just couldn't decide! I'm sure I'll be posting more of what looks like the same pictures over the next week, but I promise that they are all different in some way.
I also finally decided to post my site on Twitter and Facebook, so to everyone viewing this for the first time... I apologize in advance for the bad writing and grammar. I'm sure (hoping) my writing will get better as I continue posting new entries. It's definitely not my strongest quality but hopefully the pictures I post make up for that.
