San Diego Zoo

Last year I went to the San Diego Zoo on a monthly basis because of all the guests Laura and I had during our first year in San Diego.  Ever since the new year began, we have yet to have a visitor so our zoo trips have been pretty scarce. We decided to break this drought on Sunday and Laura, being the amazing girlfriend she is, surprised me with a backstage pass to the zoo for my birthday! The backstage pass was a two hour tour that had us up close and personal with rhinos, cheetahs, kangaroos, tropical birds, wolves, flamingos, and even the very rare... donkey! It was an amazing experience and recommend this tour to everyone.

Here's a couple photos I took during our time with the rhinos and flamingos

another sunset...

I sometimes think that I'm boring everyone that comes to my site because all I ever put on here are sunset photos at the beaches around my house. It's never boring to me when I'm there, but once I get back to my apartment and start uploading the photos they are all a blur from one night to the other. San Diego is a beautiful place though and who can really blame me for wanting to spend every oppurtunity I get at La Jolla Cove, Coronado, and Sunset Cliffs...

My goal for the next two months is to expand my photo mind and comfort zone here in San Diego. Take more portraits or even drive inland a little bit and take landscapes in an area that's not a ten minute drive for me to get to.

The following photo was taken up at Children's Pool. I wanted to include the seals (there's usually 100-200 seals laying at this beach) in my sunset photo. Unfortunately, when me and Laura got there people had set up some tents on the beach area for scuba diving and basically scared all the seals away They did it to make a "statement" that Children's Pool should be turned back into a beach for people and not for seals... I'm getting frustrated just thinking about the Children's Pool controversy.

Enjoy!

Timing is everything

Whether it's waiting until the sun goes down, the last out of the baseball game even if the other team is up ten runs, or even staying until the credits stop rolling at the movie I always stay until the very end. Well tonight was no different... at least I thought that.

After work I headed over to Ocean Beach for some sunset photos at the cliffs. I continued taken photos of the less than spectacular sunset until after the sun was gone and then I started packing up, just like any other time I'm out shooting. So I pack up, walk the two blocks to my car, and put away my gear. I look up and there's an amazing pink hue covering the sky. I guess my timing was off by just five minutes...

Lately it's been eyes being shut, a car passing by, unwanted birds in the sky, or the mistiming of a sunset, but bad timing seems to be happening to me more often than I'd like. Anyone else been having this problem lately?

This is the photo I took on my cell of the sky lit up...

and here are two pictures taken a few minutes earlier
